What’s in a Name? The Meaning of Pensefox
Rooted in Heritage, Driven by Curiosity: The Origins of Pensefox

When I first introduced the name "Pensefox", I didn’t expect it to become a conversation starter, but it did. Friends and family often tilted their heads and asked, “What-fox?” or “Pense-what?” Some even joked, “Are you sure about that name?” But every time I explained its meaning, those puzzled reactions usually turned into smiles or nods of approval.
If you’re here wondering what “Pensefox” means, let me take you on a little journey. For those who don’t know me, I’m a first-generation American with deep ties to my heritage. My mother emigrated from the Democratic Republic of Congo (then Zaire) to North Chicago, Illinois, in 1989, seeking opportunities for a better future. I was born a few years later, growing up immersed in a blend of cultures.
My first words weren’t in English; they were in French. The DRC is a predominantly French-speaking country, and Lingala was also commonly spoken at home. Starting school, however, was a bit of a curveball. I was enrolled in the district's Preschool Education Program (PEP), designed to help kids aged 3–5 overcome developmental challenges. Their description might’ve sounded dramatic, but PEP provided me with the tools I needed to thrive. Within a year, I was speaking English fluently and excelling alongside my peers.
A shoutout to North Chicago's PEP program, and a heartfelt merci to Mrs. Sue Cress, one of the teachers who played a significant role in my early years. Those moments left a lasting impression on me and set the stage for how I approach challenges and opportunities today.

So, why “Pensefox”?
The first part, “Pense,” comes from the French word for “think.” It’s a word I grew up hearing often, sometimes in the context of my less-than-stellar childhood decisions. For example, there was the time four-year-old me decided to take our dogs for an evening stroll, by myself, in the Carver Street Housing Projects of North Chicago. To put it mildly, je ne pensais pas vraiment dans cette situation, which translates to "I wasn’t exactly thinking in that situation."
But beyond those moments, “pense” represents something bigger. It’s about being thoughtful, intentional, and reflective—qualities I strive to embody in everything I do.
And then there’s the “Fox.” Foxes have always fascinated me. They’re clever, resourceful, and adaptable—traits that have shaped how I navigate life and business. A few years ago, I took a personality test that identified me as having a "Fox Personality." It was spot-on. People with this personality are intuitive, creative, and ambitious. They approach challenges with curiosity and often find unconventional solutions.
These qualities formed the foundation of Pensefox. It’s not just a consulting company; it’s a way of thinking. We’re adaptive, resourceful, and committed to thinking outside the box. Every solution we provide is tailored to our clients’ unique needs, with an emphasis on creativity, efficiency, and thoughtful execution.

Starting Pensefox wasn’t just about creating a business—it was about building something authentic, something that reflects who I am and how I approach challenges. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to have incredible mentors who encouraged me to “be yourself and let the company reflect that.” That advice has shaped every aspect of Pensefox, from the services we offer to the way we work with clients.
At Pensefox, we pride ourselves on being approachable, detail-oriented, and innovative. Whether it’s training, process improvement, or change management, we’re here to help businesses solve problems in a way that’s both effective and sustainable.
